A little bit about Britta…

There are few things better than the feeling of of one hand wrapped around a steaming mug of black tea and a book in the other. I am a hopeless romantic trapped in the shell of a cynic. Summer is my least favorite season. Petrichor is my favorite smell. A skilled harmony will get me from my toes to my hair tips every time. I love Italian food, bangs, and tomatoes fresh off the vine. I have a complicated relationship with my increasingly grey hair. Anne Shirley is my spirit animal.

I have been a writer my whole life. It started with the stories I made up for my imaginary friends Sara and Jill and then became shadow puppet plays and countless stories scribbled on papers and in notebooks. I grew up among the tree lined lakes of New Hampshire before moving with my teacher parents to Europe at age 10- first Waterloo, Belgium and then Prague.

Still a lover of stories- both consuming and creating them, I went on to study English Lit and Creative Writing at Kenyon College, a small school on a hill in Ohio. Upon graduation I followed a siren call to San Francisco and then Sonoma County where I settled over a decade ago.

I have been a teacher for most of my adult life. First landing in Fourth Grade and then moving on to Middle School English. After the pandemic I made the heart wrenching choice to take a break from teaching in order to spend more time with my family, writing, and to simply breathe. During this break I discovered Laurie Wagner’s brilliant Wild Writing, and utterly inspired, I dove head first into her teacher training knowing this transformative practice was something I wanted to share with my community. I live in Graton, California with my husband, two children, and a fluffy tailed Maine Coon Tabby.
